The Opportunity
This is not a role for someone who wants to sit in the background measuring quantities and sending out packages all day.
We are looking for a commercially sharp Estimator who understands the full tender process, can read a job properly, challenge a scope, identify risk early, and help put forward a submission that is both competitive and buildable.
You will be working across commercial construction projects, with a strong focus on hospitality, education, refurbishment and fit-out style works. These are often live, detailed and stakeholder-heavy environments where the cheapest price does not always win, and where the quality of the tender response matters.
This role will suit someone from a Tier 2 or strong Tier 3 commercial construction background who has had genuine exposure to end-to-end estimating, subcontractor engagement, take-offs, tender strategy and submission preparation.
The Role
As Estimator, you will be involved from the early review of tender documentation through to pricing, trade coverage, risk review, tender submission and handover.
You will work closely with senior management, delivery teams, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure each tender is properly understood, accurately priced and commercially considered.
This role needs someone who can look beyond the drawings and numbers. You will need to understand methodology, programme pressure, subcontractor capability, site constraints, buildability and the commercial risk sitting inside each tender.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications and scopes of work
- Preparing detailed estimates across commercial construction projects
- Completing take-offs, trade breakdowns and pricing reviews
- Engaging subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive and reliable coverage
- Comparing subcontractor submissions and identifying gaps, exclusions or risk
- Preparing tender clarifications, exclusions and supporting documentation
- Working with construction and delivery teams to test methodology, programme and buildability
- Supporting tender strategy, risk reviews and commercial decision-making
- Preparing tender submissions that are accurate, professional and commercially sound
- Assisting with handover from estimating to delivery once projects are awarded
- Maintaining strong subcontractor relationships and market pricing knowledge
- Contributing to continuous improvement across estimating systems, templates and processes
What We’re Looking For
You will need to be more than just technically capable. The right person will have good judgement, strong communication skills and the confidence to work with project teams, subcontractors and senior stakeholders.
We are looking for someone with:
- Proven experience as an Estimator within commercial construction
- Background in Tier 2 or Tier 3 building environments
- Strong exposure to hospitality, education, commercial fit-out or refurbishment projects
- Experience pricing projects in the $30M – $40M range highly regarded
- Strong understanding of end-to-end estimating processes
- Ability to complete take-offs, trade pricing and subcontractor comparisons
- Strong subcontractor engagement and procurement awareness
- Ability to review scopes, drawings and specifications in detail
- Good understanding of risk, margin, exclusions and tender strategy
- Strong written skills for tender submissions and supporting documentation
- Stable work history and strong employment tenure
- Commercially mature approach with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively with delivery teams and senior management
